We are very busy practicing as lawyers, but sometimes you just have to comment about interesting non-lawyer things.  This has nothing to do with an auto, truck or motorcycle accident with the exception that it is quite possibly a train wreck waiting to happen.  I briefly watched Rupert and James Murdoch sit before the committee of Parliament yesterday early morning.  It was real interesting because I got to see the guy try to hit Murdoch with a pie, shaving cream, or what ever.  I loved Murdoch’s wife Wendi Deng; they talked on the news about her protective left hook, but it looked like a round-house right hook to me.  Notice the son James just stood up and looked at the man attacking his dad saying to himself, “no worry my good looking step mom Wendi Deng will protect dad.”

What I found interesting was a number of the answers that Rupert Murdoch gave concerning what happened with the cell phone scandal.  Many answers about what was going on in the company went back to the lawyers.  Basically the lawyers take care of that and I don’t stay too informed.  Yep, leave it to the Attorneys.  I wonder how big their legal staff is?  I bet they have hundreds, if not thousands of lawyers working for them.  Murdoch said that they have over 500,000 employees.  Imagine that payroll!  It also sounded like the lawyers deal with a lot of libel and slander cases.  I did not hear anything about personal injury attorneys or personal injury accidents.  I guess a newspaper has to worry about what they say in the paper not whether or not their trucks get in accidents and injure people.

Another interesting point that Rupert Murdoch said was that World News comprised only about 1% of their holdings.  Hmm, I bet  a lot of people in this world would take that one percent.  Rupert also said that he was not ultimately responsible for  the cell phone hacking controversy.

Back to the pie in the face incident.  Did you notice how poor the security was in the room.  How is it that a guy could walk  (yes this guy just calmly walked up and hit Rupert Murdoch) right up to Murdoch and hit him with a shaving cream (or what-ever) pie?  Did you see what the police did to the man afterwards?  The police handcuffed him and talked to him nicely and took a picture of him and wiped off the shaving cream carefully off his face.  What were they going to do next, sit down and have a sip of tea with him?  I’m not saying beat the guy, but they didn’t seem too disturbed about the incident.  Remember there may be some issues in the scandal about Chief’s of police being on the take.  Whether you like or hate the Murdoch’s, that supposed breach of security is very interesting.

Do the attorney’s for the Murdochs know that a criminal investigation is going on?  Can the Murdoch’s testimony in this hearing be used against them in an England court of law?  I think Rupert is too old and not thinking quite straight to be answering too many questions.  You could tell his son James would cringe when his dad was answering questions.

Has anyone out there asked the simple question?  Hmm, are any other news companies doing the same thing that World News and Rupert Murdoch employees were caught doing?  Hmm, do you think the people at CNN fudge a little or even break the law to get the news story?  Why isn’t there a probe into their agency?  Maybe this is a political thing?  If someone did some real digging CNN, CNBC and others might be just as dirty as what happened at World News.  And, that is just my take on it, just an opinion that is worth nothing.

Finally, the cream pie in the face of Rupert Murdock was the best thing that ever happened to him.  Yes, it was the “most humble day of [his] life” but thank-you for the distraction from the proceeding and making the world feel a little angry (some might be thankful though) at the protester.  The Murdock wife looks like a hero and her husband like a little bit of a victim of a pie attack.  Again the best thing that could have happened to the Murdoch’s, a pie in the face!
