Avandia Drug
Avandia was a drug that was approved in to treat Type 2 diabetes. May 21, 2007, the FDA issued a safety alert on the drug noting that “data from controlled clinical trials have shown there is a potentially significant increase in the risk of heart attack and heart-related deaths in patients taking Avandia.” Aside from the advisory, there is evidence that the manufacturer knew of the risks well before the advisory but attempted to suppress them – perhaps as early as 2000.
